HXV Hybrid Coolers

An integrated closed-circuit cooling solution combining high-efficiency cooling, plume abatement, and water-saving operation.

The HXV series from BAC features a patented design that utilizes hybrid operation technology, integrating the advantages of both evaporative and dry cooling into one high-performance, compact, and water-efficient cooling solution.

Plume Abatement

Many facilities are negatively impacted by the visible plume formed from saturated air discharged by conventional cooling towers. In plume-sensitive areas such as airports and vehicle access zones, visible fog can present significant safety hazards.
The HXV offers a unique combination of sensible, adiabatic, and evaporative heat transfer modes, significantly reducing visible plume formation compared to traditional evaporative systems.
During the coldest periods of the year—when plume formation is most likely—the HXV can operate in 100% dry mode, completely eliminating visible plume emissions.

Maximize Water Savings

The HXV delivers water-saving performance year-round across its three operating modes.
Under extreme conditions, the hybrid wet/dry mode removes a significant portion of heat through sensible cooling, reducing the reliance on evaporation and thus water consumption.
As thermal load or ambient temperature drops, adiabatic mode further reduces water use until it eventually reaches dry mode, where no water is consumed.
Compared to conventional evaporative systems, the HXV can reduce water consumption by up to 70%, while still delivering lower fluid outlet temperatures for improved system efficiency.

In many regions, the savings in water costs alone can cover the equipment investment within just two years.
For projects with limited water availability or usage restrictions, the HXV presents an ideal solution.

When cooling high-temperature fluids (>82°C / 180°F), the HXV uses the dry section to pre-cool the fluid before it enters the evaporative heat exchange coil.
Even during peak summer conditions, the HXV operates with minimal fan power compared to traditional dry coolers, while utilizing evaporative cooling to achieve lower fluid temperatures.

The HXV’s innovative design has earned multiple patents and product innovation awards in North America and Europe, and is engineered to meet the demands of the most challenging applications.
